Yorkshire Hockey This Weekend
yhalogoblue.jpgYorkshire Hockey This Weekend
At Ben Rhydding HC
12:00 Bradford 1 v Durham City 1
14:00 Sheffield Hallam 2 v Neston 1

Bradford 1 play-off for a possible place in North Division 2 East next season. Usually it is just the winners of the Yorkshire Premier Division and the North East Division One that get promoted to North Div 2 East, but there may be a second promotion spot up for grabs should Sheffield Hallam 2 win their 14:00 promotion match against Neston 1.
In North Div 2 East Doncaster 2 have already been promoted to North Division One next season, and 2nd-place Sheffield Hallam 2 played the first match in a promotion play-off with North Div 2 West team Windermere 1 last Saturday at University of Leeds winning 4-0.
This week Sheffield Hallam 2 play-off against Neston 1, at 14:00 at Ben Rhydding HC, the team that finished third-bottom in North Division 1, with the winner playing in North Division 1 next season and the loser dropping down to Division 2.
Should Sheffield Hallam 2 beat Neston 1, then the winner of Bradford 1 v Durham City 1 will be in a position to gain promotion to North Div 2 East should the North League Committee agree that the play-off is the logical way to decide the extra promotion spot (if Sheff Hallam 2 are promoted). This match is being played tomorrow even though it is not certain that the winner will be promoted to get it in before the Bank Holiday, and before hockey players start playing cricket or engaging in other activities after the end of the hockey season.
EH MEN'S O70s MASTERS REGIONAL TOURNAMENT
If you fancy watching slower-paced the EH Men's O70s Regional Tournament takes place at Sheffield HC's Abbeydale Sports Club over the weekend (28/29 April).

YHA Cup Finals Weekend
yhalogoblue.jpgYHA Cup Finals Weekend
Many to thanks all teams, umpires and officials who produced one of our best Cup Finals weekends ever!
Seven matches were played, none went to penalty strokes, everyone played in true competitive cup hockey in a friendly atmosphere and we had a good and very vocal band of supporters for all the matches with over 100 people watching come of the matches at Sheffield HC on the Sunday.
The weather did its bit well with just a bit of, perhaps, too hot weather at times on Saturday at Halifax, and a touch of rain during the first game on Sunday, but otherwise reasonably hockey weather with not a bit of ice or snow in sight!
Sheffield University Bankers contested four finals, winning three: Women's Yorkshire Cup and Yvonne Horner Shield and Men's Masters A Div Cup; Driffield Men's 2s retained the Men's League Cup B and Boston Spa 3/4 provided yet another different winner of Men's League Cup C.
On Sunday Bradford 1 thwarted University of Hull 1's attempt to retain the Men's League Cup A trophy they won last season and Sheffield Hallam Women's 4 completed a league and cup double winning the Women's Division 5 Cup as well as finishing as Women's League Division 5 South Champions!
Special thanks go to the Umpiring team ably led by YHUA Chief Umpire Coach Barrie Pollard, who even showed his expertise hadn't waned by umpiring a couple of games himself, with Cup Final appointments not only providing good quality umpiring throughout, but using the event to bring on some promising younger umpires.
Our big thanks also go to Match Official Tracey Helliwell who officiated all three games on the main pitch at Halifax, and thanks also go to Alison McManus and Andy Pettigrew who between them made sure that the one match on the second pitch went without a hitch.
Finally, thanks go to both Halifax HC and Sheffield HC, two clubs who have hosted many Yorkshire events over the years, for their brilliant team of volunteers and superb event management, providing a great Cup Final atmosphere!

Changes to the England Hockey Leagues
eh_shield_blue.jpgChanges to the England Hockey Leagues
www.englandhockey.co.uk 04.04.2018
At the March 2018 board meeting, England Hockey agreed changes to the structure of the Investec Women’s Hockey League and Men’s Hockey League. The changes will be implemented in the 2019-20 season. These changes are the first step in adapting to the evolving landscape of the Hockey Pro League (and international player availability) and requests from clubs to review the domestic structure.
The most recent consultation (February 2018) strongly supported an interim restructure to the leagues and this is outlined beneath. More than two-thirds of teams in the England Hockey Leagues responded to the consultation as well as more than 50 Regional Premier League teams.
The changes will be revisited again after the Tokyo Olympics in 2020 (and after two years of the Hockey Pro League) with a view to further developing the structure to support domestic hockey to progress for years to come.
England Hockey is ambitious about creating a structure that encourages clubs to continue to develop, strive for success at the highest level of European competition and support our international success objectives.

The General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR)
eh_shield_blue.jpgThe General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR)
www.englandhockey.co.uk 21.03.2018
GDPR will come into effect on 25 May 2018 and will replace the Data Protection Act (DPA). Legal advice suggests that GDPR does not present a drastic overhaul to the current DPA framework but rather, it plugs gaps, or strengthens existing rights and obligations and defines certain concepts more precisely.
