Payments to coaches and other individuals
EH is running some Regional Roadshows to advise on employment & tax issues. For any of you to whom this is relevant, it should be very informative so please do go along. The North meeting is on 23rd April 2014 at Weetwood starting at 6.30pm.
The issue of payments to coaches and other roles that were previously voluntary has been the subject of significant consultations with the RCC and Regional Hockey Associations and England Hockey is now looking to support County Hockey Associations. There is no doubt that HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) are targeting sport to ensure that clubs and associations are complying with the tax rules. Many of you will have seen the recent case of a cricket club which was fined £12,000 and the widespread payment to coaches, managers and administrators within the Single System has brought hockey into the spotlight.
England Hockey has sought the advice of its professional advisors and has developed resources and guidance which will help all counties meet their obligations. Ian Wilson, England Hockey’s Finance Director, is looking to meet all County treasurers via a series of regional roadshows to discuss the issues and potential solutions. Amongst the topics being covered will be:
- Background to HMRC’s current campaign
- Are the coaches/managers PAYE or self employed?
- Honorarium and Expenses
- EH guidance and resources.
It will be an opportunity to discuss the issues faced by County Hockey Associations, receive the advice provided to England Hockey and understand how the risks can be minimised.
The roadshow in your region will be as follows, if you live closer to another venue please feel free to attend that one:-
- North – 23rd April 2014 – 6.30-9.30 - Weetwood Pavilion, University of Leeds, Westwood Ring Road, Leeds. LS16 5AU
- West - 24th April 2014 – 6.30-9.30 –Taunton Vale Sports Club. Gypsy Lane, Staplegrove, Taunton, Somerset TA2 6LP
- East – 28th April 2014 – 7.30-9.00 - Stansted Hilton Hotel, Round Coppice Road, Stansted. CM24 1SF
- Midlands – 7th May 2014, 7.30-9.00 - Coleshill Hotel, 52-156 High Street, Coleshill, Birmingham, Warwickshire, B46 3BG
- South – 1st May 2014 –7.30-9.00 Surbiton Hockey Club, Sugden Road, Long Ditton. KT7 0AE
Please confirm which venue you will attend by contacting the relevant Regional Office.
Further sessions will be advertised that will be specifically targeted at clubs.
