Re: VARIOUS RECENT SCAMS
To: ALL YORKSHIRE AFFILIATED HOCKEY CLUBS

During the past couple of months there have been a number of scams aimed at hockey clubs and their members.
The first reported scam was one involving buying tickets for hockey events reported in mid-August.
Earlier this month one of our clubs received a phone call purporting to come from YHA and asking for payment of ‘fees’. When questioned about their identity the caller rang off.
Last week Yorkshire Umpires reported that their members had been approached by someone saying they were from ‘England Hockey’ and offering FIH umpire shirts for sale.

These were all scams made by unscrupulous people.
None of these are legitimate offers and NO ONE should disclose any personal or financial details over the phone.
Please make your club officers and members aware that no hockey organisation sells items by phone and on no account should they agree to buy anything by this method.
Yorkshire Hockey Association DO NOT ask for payment of any fees from clubs by phone. YHA Clubs are invoiced direct for affiliation and other fees by the YHA Treasurer and not via phone calls.
At present, the police advice is for ANYONE who has received calls such as these to report them to the National Fraud Unit on 0300 123 2040. or online at the national ACTION FRAUD website.
The more reports and details that can be collated, the more likely a successful outcome, and the culprit apprehended.  Please report any calls in relation to this scam.

If you receive any suspicious hockey related calls please let YHA know at -email- and report it to the
ACTION FRAUD website.
